Costa Blanca- North
The quality of life is considerably higher in the Northern Costa Blanca (also known as Costa Blanca-North) as mass tourism and busy traffic tends to be confined to the Torrevieja area (Costa Blanca-South and Costa del Sol). The Coast and countryside is extraordinarily beautiful, particularly in the Northern part of the Costa Blanca between Benidorm and Denia: dramatic mountains merge gently with green hills rich in pines, olives, almonds, vines and orange groves. Moraira, Javea, Denia and parts of Calpe are in a conservation zone where building height and density are strictly controlled. Amongst the scenic rural surroundings nestle several golf courses, towns and beautiful villages providing excellent facilities for modern day living.
Denia
The Roman town of Denia, just a 20 minute drive from Monte Pego, is a bustling, year-round, cosmopolitan town. Downtown Denia offers a wide range of shops, sidewalk cafes, ethnic restaurants and other attractions to satisfy the interests of most visitors. The port of Denia services a variety of maritime needs. The port facilities are shared by local fishing boats, excursion boats, large ferries carrying goods and passengers to and from the Balearics, and numerous pleasure craft occupying two large marinas. An historic castle is a prominent feature of the town and is a particularly beautiful landmark when lit up at night.
Pego
Pego is a wonderful example of a small, traditional Spanish town.It recently featured on the TV program "A Place In The Sun" but remains virtually untouched and unspoilt by tourism. Pego is the envy of the whole of the Costa as it has its own plentiful supply of fresh spring water.
Pego has just celebrated its 725th anniversary and its labyrinth of narrow streets are steeped in local history. It has a rice museum, art gallery, and four churches and many small squares nearly all with at least one bar in them. It is a beautiful Spanish town, a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby Costa Blanca, with its abundance of beach resorts and attractions.
The area between the town of Pego and the coast is a wetland area with marshes that are crossed by numerous streams which provide irrigation for extensive rice fields. This is where the short-grain rice is cultivated, and this rice can be purchased by the bag in the town of Pego.
Monte Pego
Monte Pego is mature, established and the most stunning community of Spanish villas in the beautiful Costa Blanca North. The picturesque and unspoiled views of the sea, mountains and countryside are simply . . . breathtaking!
Monte Pego also enjoys a higher proportion of year-round residents to anywhere else in the Costa Blanca.
Travel to Monte Pego is relatively straightforward, but car hire is essential.Monte Pego is midway between Valencia and Alicante airports, with both being approximately an hour's drive away. The A7E15 motorway offers the most convenient and direct route from either airport, with the respective exits (Junctions 61 or 62) being less than 10 minutes drive from Monte Pego. There are good rail links to Valencia from Gandia, some 20 minutes drive from the villa.
Climate
Much is written about the superb climate of the Costa Blanca. Generally speaking, the summers are slightly cooler and less humid than the Costa del Sol , with the winters drier, less windy and sunnier. In fact, the World Health Organisation has proclaimed that the Moraira, Javea and Denia peninsula of the Costa Blanca has “one of the most environmentally perfect climates in the world”. NB. Microclimates are only possible in the lee of a mountain range. Monte Pego and its environs are mountainous.
